ITABE presents Giacomo Lariccia and Don Antonio Concert @ Tricoterie | Brussels · BE
"Rital" was once a derogatory nickname for Italians. Today, the term is used in a much more affectionate way, but it took a long time and many songs to be sung before the word took on the meaning it has today. This concert tells a story of emigration—one story among many, yet as unique as every life. The common thread? Music, travel, and songs. Sung strictly with a rolled “R” and a southern accent. Giacomo Lariccia & Don Antonio: What brings these two musicians together, who at first glance seem so different? Travel. The first is a singer-songwriter, the second a guitarist and producer: both have carried an idea of Italian music across the globe without ever turning it into a stereotype. They have remained true to their roots while blending them with what the world has offered them. Don Antonio and Lariccia met in Italy, in Romagna, during the recording of Lariccia’s latest album. The result is raw, low-fidelity folk with the worn-velvet scent of Central Europe, a bold aftertaste of Romagna, and the salty flavor of the Mediterranean.
